The predecessor of the College of Information Science and Engineering at Hohai University can be traced back to the Department of Electronic Engineering at the College of Mechanical Engineering, which was established in 1986. In 1995, it was renamed as the College of Computer and Information Engineering (Changzhou) at Hohai University, and was later renamed as the College of Computer and Information Science (Changzhou) in 2009. In November 2012, it was once again renamed as the College of Internet of Things Engineering at Hohai University. Finally, in April 2023, the college was renamed as the College of Information Science and Engineering.
The College of Information Science and Engineering offers four undergraduate majors: Communication Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Electronic Information Engineering. Among them, Communication Engineering and Internet of Things Engineering were selected as national first-class undergraduate majors construction sites in 2021. In 2022, the Communication Engineering major passed the certification of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association, while the Internet of Things Engineering major completed the on-campus inspection by the certification expert group. In addition, the Communication Engineering major is also a national characteristic major, a pilot major of the National Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, a national comprehensive reform pilot major, a key major of Jiangsu universities, and a provincial-level key major; the Internet of Things Engineering major is a national characteristic major, a key major of Jiangsu universities, and a provincial-level key major. In recent years, the college has established four national first-class courses, been approved for one pilot project of the Ministry of Education's virtual teaching and research platform, and one excellent grassroots teaching organization in Jiangsu Province, presided over one of the first batch of new engineering projects of the Ministry of Education, 22 Industry-University-Research collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education (the most among all colleges in the university), one project of higher education teaching reform in Jiangsu Province, and one project of key teaching materials in Jiangsu Province. The college has two national-level practical teaching bases: Engineering Practice Education Center of Hohai University-Jiangsu Guoguang Information Industry Co., LTD., Engineering Practice Education Center of Hohai University-Guangzhou Zhouligong Microcontroller Technology Co., LTD., and three provincial practical teaching bases: Hohai University-Changzhou Mobile Internet of Things Engineering Practice Education Center, provincial Experimental Demonstration Center of electronic Information Technology, and Innovation Experimental Base for Stereo Cultivating Mode of Engineering Talents in the Electrical and Information Engineering in Jiangsu Province. The college always bears in mind its glorious mission of cultivate talent for the Party and the State and is committed to cultivating outstanding talents with solid theoretical foundations and strong practical innovation capabilities. In the past three years, the college has won 4 first prizes and 16 second prizes in the China Software Cup National University Student Software Design Competition, and has become an important base for the cultivation of innovative talents in fields such as communication engineering and Internet of Things engineering in China.
The College of Information Science and Engineering has a first-level doctoral program in Information and Communication Engineering, a second-level doctoral program in Internet of Things Technology and Application, and a first-level master's program in Electronic Science and Technology. The College has seven national, provincial, and municipal-level scientific and technological platforms, including a Class B Laboratory under the Ministry of Education, the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Power Transmission and Distribution Equipment Technology, the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Special Robot Technology (co-construction), the Changzhou Key Laboratory of Power Transmission and Distribution and Power Saving Technology, the Changzhou Key Laboratory of Sensor Networks and Environmental Perception, the Changzhou Key Laboratory of Special Robotics and Intelligent Technology (co-construction), the Changzhou Key Laboratory of Digital Technology on Graphics and Orthopaedic Implants and Changzhou Key Laboratory of UAV Intelligent Control Platform and Technology. In the past five years, the College has undertaken and completed over 40 national-level projects, including the National Key R&D Program of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Key Program), and National Natural Science Foundation of China (General and Youth Program). The College has won more than 10 important scientific and technological awards, including the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, the second prize of WU WEN JUN AI SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AWARD. Additionally, the College has published over 420 SCI papers and has been granted more than 500 national invention patents.
The College currently has more than 1900 undergraduate students, over 400 graduate students, and more than 30 international students. There are 130 faculty and staff members, including 97 full-time teachers, 30 professors, and 45 associate professors. Among them, there are 21 doctoral supervisors and 59 master's supervisors. The proportion of full-time teachers with a doctoral degree is 83.5%, and the proportion of teachers with overseas experience is 48.1%. In the College, one teacher has been selected as IEEE Fellow, four have been awarded the Excellent Teacher Award of Baogang Education Foundation, one has been awarded the Xu Zhilun Teaching Award, one has been awarded the Google Teaching Award, and one teacher has been included in Elsevier’s 2022 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list.
